Residential Gateway Solution
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The MSP7100 Series Residential Gateway Solution is a development
platform for carrier-grade triple-play residential or small/medium
business (SMB) gateways. Designed for OEM/ODMs, the RG platform
provides reliable video routing performance, home network QoS and
remote management support.
This comprehensive solution is built on top of PMC-Sierra's high perfor-
mance MSP7100 Series SoCs that deliver the throughput and packet
processing performance essential to support broadband bandwidth
growth and uses the advanced PM73255 RG SDK for Linux 2.6 that
delivers the performance and QoS required by advanced triple play
residential gateways.
The standard tools and programming environment provided with the
kit reduce OEM/ODM time-to-market. The kit's high performance
production-quality firmware is ready for product integration. As well,
since MSP7100 Series processors integrate a standard MIPS32 core,
developers can utilize conventional software tools, reducing devel-
opment time and guaranteeing software re-use across the product
line.
As part of PMC-Sierra's family of solutions for the digital home, the
MSP7100 Series RG platform is available in variants that support all
key WAN technologies including ADSL2+
1
, VDSL2
3
and Ethernet
4
.
Furthermore, all emerging LAN technologies such as MoCA, HPNA,
HomePlug, and WiFi are supported.
The platform's powerful SDK comes with production-ready software
components including a multi-threaded networking software solution
package (SSP) that incorporates a high-performance Linux networking
stack and standard software development environment and tools, a
Voice Gateway SSP, a management framework SSP that allows easy
and reliable integration of management agents, and a reference appli-
cation software package.
Included with the kit is complete documentation for board devel-
opment and software programming.
KIT BENEFITS
High performance, flexible, and scalable development kit
Comprehensive support for VoIP
High performance: wire-rate FE bridging and IP forwarding of small
packets, without penalty of lack of programmability based on a
conventional MIPS32 ISA and programming methods
Advanced QoS functions to enable robust service delivery over multi-
service home networks
Enhanced control and visibility points to enable strong remote
management and diagnostics (TR069/098)
High processing headroom essential for ensuring deterministic
performance and enabling future expansion of gateway capabilities
Low total BoM cost achieved by integrating the VoIP ATA function, an
SoC with integrated voice processing, ADSL2+ WAN and USB
interfaces, and other hardware features required for next-
generation RGs with no requirement for adding an external DSP
processor
